Following cues from the original iconic Charlotte barbecue restaurant, the two following projects depicted are the first to expand the brand into a franchise. The Cornelius location entailed a massive renovation to an existing restaurant building that repeatedly had failed under previous themes. The focus was to infuse the brand of Mac’s both inside and outside by use of signature elements, color, and materials. The second Charlotte restaurant in the Steele Creek area is the first of the Mac’s brand to be a ground-up project. Again, borrowing cues from the original, creative use of earlier elements reinforce the brand in a new facility. The addition of a “boardwalk” exterior seating area above the storm water detention pond creates a new positive function to what would otherwise have been an eyesore.
